A prayer by Jesus

The Our Father, a prayer by Jesus

The author of the Our Father is Jesus Christ. Hence, the prayer is used by all Christian confessions. It was first written down in Greek (Pater Hemon), and it has since then been translated to nearly all languages. The prayer is quoted in the Bible (Gospel of Matthew, chapter 6, verses 9-13). The doxoglogy ("For yours is the Kingdom...") was added to the Our Father already around 100 AD and it can be found in some very early Bible Manuscripts. In Protestant Tradition, this doxology is considered a part of the Our Father, whereas in Roman Catholic liturgy, the priest says some additional prayers between the Our Father itself and the doxology. In Orthodox Services, the priest finishes the Our Father with an enhanced version of the doxology, following John Chrysostomos: "For yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory, of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever, and to the ages of ages."

The Our Father (modern)

[flag: en]

Our father in heaven,
hallowed by your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those, who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
(MATTH. 6:9-13)

For the Kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever.

Amen.

Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our tresspasses, as we forgive those, who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
(MATTH. 6:9-13)

For thine is Kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

Das Vaterunser

[flag: de]

Vater unser im Himmel!
Geheiligt werde Dein Name.
Dein Reich komme.

Amen.

Pater Noster

[flag: la]

Pater Noster, qui es in caelis:
sanctificétur nomen tuum;
advéniat regnum tuum;
fiat volúntas tua, sicut in caelo, et in terra.
Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie;
et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris;
et ne nos indúcas in temptatiónem,
sed líbera nos a malo.
(MATTH. 6:9-13)

Amen.

Padre Nostro

[flag: it]

Padre nostro, che sei nei cieli!
Sia santificato il tuo nome.
Venga il tuo regno.
Sia fatta la tua volontá.
Come in cielo cosí in terra.
Dacci oggi il nostro pane quotidiano,
E rimetti a noi i nostri debiti,
Come noi li rimettiamo ai nostri debitori.
E non ci indurre in tentazione,
Ma liberaci dal male.
(MATTH. 6:9-13)

Amen.

A "Mi atyánk"

[flag: hu]
